Inmates - Asshole Unanimous Presents...

Inmates is a hardcore band from Cleveland, Ohio. If you know who the Melnicks are, this is one of their bands, except this doesn't have the metallic influence like some of their previous bands. The vocalist, Paul, does his vocals in an English accent. This is probably one of my favorite Cleveland bands. This is the remastered version with 27 tracks.

Mindless Mutant - S/T

Featuring, Max 625 on drums, Members of bay area's Our Turn and Look Back and Laugh. Mindless Mutant make one heavy ass powerviolence band. The first 3 songs on both sides are all ragers you'd expect from the collective members. There are two instrumental tracks, one on each side. I think they are the most interesting songs, the heavy riffage for 2 minutes is sick as fuck (listen to this shit loud). This is a crushing record. I thought this was OOP but apparently you can buy it from badskulls. I didn't know they started selling records, but I've seen it on there recently. This is Mindless Mutant's only release and they aren't playing anymore. Split Release by 625/Dangerously Small. Get it.

Manrae - Pacata Hibernia

This is one of my favorite mid 90's ebullition releases, certainly one of the most underrated as well. Emerging from the UK, Manrae play a very passionate form of hardcore. Manrae have all of the twink guitar work building into high energy parts that made 90s emo so good. If you're having a bad day and want to let it all out, put on this record and sob yr heart out. I'm sure this record has been re-pressed a fuck load so, buy it on interpunk or some shit if you cant afford the $100 dollar mailorder for ebullition.

Breathing Fire - Demo

"I predicted when xFILESx broke up how baffingly funny it would be to say ex-xFILESx for the next band. Well here you have it! Breathing Fire features ex-member of xFILESx. Going leaps beyond the direction of Excruciation (xFILESx''s last album), and slowing the intense thrash beats to a heavier sound, Breathing Fire ends up sounding like a mid-nineties power violence band influenced by bands like Crossed Out. Their fast parts are fast, but the other 40% of is super slow HEAVY hardcore that is probably aided by down tuning. This heavy/slow sound is showcased in “Gates Of Ivory.” Ditching the comedic aspects of xFILESx, Breathing Fire takes a more serious tone. Vocally don''t expect higher screams, but instead lower raspy bellows lined with drowning thirst. The juxtaposition of the fast and slow parts is appreciated. The songs loaded with tons of parts makes it sound like technical hardcore. "Exhale" is the creepiest sounding song with repetitive guitar droning and a sample of chainsaws and screaming."

Yaphet Kotto - Unreleased

On August 2nd, 2008. Yaphet Kotto were set up to play their long awaited "Last Show" since their break up in 2004. They planned to play at the legendary Gilman St in Berkeley, California. For their last show, Yaphet Kotto decided to make a few CD-rs with a few unreleased songs to sell. Unfortunately one of the members of Yaphet Kotto didn't show up which led to pissed off, disappointed fans, and unsold CD-rs. So the guitarist of Yaphet Kotto put them up on vivalavinyl.org and mail ordered the remaining CD-rs to whoever paypaled 7 bones. I managed to get my hands on one of these CD-rs, It's hand numbered limited to 53 and has a the "Last Show" date stamped on the sleeve. It has 3 unreleased songs which one is a Jasmine cover.

Timber

Coming from the DC/Maryland area, is a band called Timber. These guys play really interesting and fun music. Driving rhythems, raw youthful vocals, and melodic guitar work that will chill your bones. Think of the prime 90s post-hardcore bands like The Nation of Ulysses, Drive Like Jehu, and Kerosene 454 for a good picture of how Timber sound. These dudes play hard, and this stuff's pretty powerful. They just released a 7" and you can send 4ppd to ambrose.nzams@gmail.com to buy it.

Hatred Surge - Servant b/w Bestial

Hatred Surge is a one man grindcore/hardcore project from Texas. This is Alex Hughes project, who was a former member of now defunct grindcore band, Insect Warfare. If you haven't heard this band, I wouldn't suggest starting on this release because this isn't his typical style (big use of electronics on this). This 7" sold out very fast (most selling at the release show). This is currently the only blog with this upped, so get on it!

Eating Glass - Feed Them To The Vultures

Eating Glass is an amazing band from Canada. Plays hardcore similar to Pulling Teeth and Trash Talk. Each track on this fucking rips! This will be released in September on a 7" on High Anxiety Records, so make sure you go buy like 3 copies of this.

Rot In Hell (RE-UPPED)

Rot in Hell is a newer band from the UK. They play metallic hardcore strongly influenced by early Ringworm and Integrity. The files in this are the demo from 2007, the split with Brain Dead, and one track from the Hordes split. The track from the Brain Dead and Hordes split isn't great quality and there is a track or two missing from the Hordes split. They are now signed to Deathwish Inc. and plan on releasing an LP soon on DW and watch out for a collection of their stuff to be released on a389 records.

Harm's Way

Harm’s Way is currently the hardest fucking hardcore band today. Seriously guys..these are the devil worshiping jams you listen to while pissing on the bible. Perfect music for robbing a bank, beating up your boss, long car ride MOSH, or if you just want to rage. These dudes were/are in members of Plan of Attack, Few And The Proud, Weekend Nachos and Chronic Seizure and play a heinous barrage of thrashing hardcore with plenty of dirge and sludge mixed in. Mixing Carcass, EyeHateGod, Infest, and Napalm Death, would give you a pretty damn good idea of how HARD Harm's Way is. New LP SOON.

Grief - And Man Becomes the Hunted

This is the final record by 90's Doom/Sludge gods Grief. This is probably my favorite album by these guys. Full of heavy, jagged riffs, huge sludge bombs. Total Sabbath/Vitus worship with grinding vocals. Every time I listen to the song "If The World Was Flat" I want to punch a hole in the wall. One of the most interesting doom bands I have ever heard. the_finest.

Necros - IQ32 EP

Here's IQ32 by 80's Ohio hardcore band Necros. Amazing fast, furious, powerful hardcore punk. One of the earliest, finest, and my personal favorite 80's midwest hardcore band. In the Necros short lifespan, they spent most of their time opening for bands such as, Black Flag and DOA, and playing shows with other midwestern bands like Negative Approach, The Meatmen, and Bored Youth. This EP was released by Touch and Go Records and Dischord Records. "I.Q.32 I.Q.32 I.Q.32 Midwest fuck you!"

Weekend Nachos - It's A Wonderful Life

Weekend Nachos is a hardcore (NOT POWERVIOLENCE) band from Illinois. Fast, pissed, and heavy in vain of Think I Care and Infest. This is probably one of my favorite bands! The recordings are a tad bit lo-fi, but still good. Their new stuff has gotten a lot better (check out Punish and Destroy on Cowabunga and the tracks off the This Comp Kills Fascists CD on Relapse). Cursed - II

This is Cursed's sophomore album on Goodfellow records. Members were in bands Left for Dead, The Swarm, Ruination, Ire, and Haymaker. Played hardcore similar to Trap Them, Converge, and Integrity. They are now, unfortunately, broke up due to their shit being stolen on their European tour. They have two other LPs that are still in print (I, repressed on Thrash Art, and III: Architects of Troubled Sleep on Goodfellow). III was actually released maybe two months before they broke up.
