The Daily Void - Identification Code: 5271-4984953784-06564

The Daily Void might be the best punk band from Chicago. 3/4s of Functional Blackouts and featuring Mac Blackout. Some total weirdo stuff here. Just judging by the artwork of this LP you might say this shit came from space; looks like an industrial power plant with some stairway into a black hole (steam punks will love this shit). The artwork isn't the only odd thing here. Song titles include, "Tapewurm, Insect, Man Without A Face", etc. The vocals can get a little freaky too. On "The Man Without A Face" the "Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha" chorus sounds like if you were being stabbed to death by a serial killer. Anyways, The Daily Void are basically doing the noisy, "art punk" gig; but play well and interesting enough to say they're doing their own thing. For fans of Rudi P, Homostupids, Darvocets and the Fashionable Idiots discography. Buy this LP on Dead Beat. More records on Hozac, Boomchick, and Florida's Dying. All gone though.

The Daily Void are so ridiculously good. It's amazing when they play hardcore shows and completely bum kids out. I'll admit I wasn't too high on them at first (after being such a huge FB fan) but now I can barely listen to the early Functional Blackouts stuff without wanting to throw on some more recent Daily Void records.

They are average. Nothing new here, same old 3 chord punk. Sometimes catchy, boring live. Two Chicago bands that are totally true punk in my book are Ca Caw and K.K. Rampage. Everytime I see KK Rampage live, the audience is scared shitless. Very animal primitive shows, plus the music is unique!!! They opened for Chicago Sound in early August at Subterannean, the sink was torn from the bathroom wall, water everywhere, pictures smashed off walls, nuts. Ca caw isn't as violent, but the singer is menacing and killer.

KK Rampage, is pretty decent at some points...but at others there's this shitty high pitched screech i wonder if he knows that? Also bro-kid, they are not scary, there stage performance is miminmal. Cacaw, honestly i don't even think i would take a free cd from them. Both bands don't have even close to the chops of daily void, when the singer from cacaw actualy does sing it sounds a lot like andy milanokus. Anyway at your next show don't forget the bubble machine.

I own about half of KK Rampages catalog so far...which is like a crazy 300 plus songs and growing. Its about quality, not quantity. The thing with the Daily Void...is well who cares about chops...the garage rock/punk scene has been doing that shit for 30 years. With K.K. RAmpage, there sound is ever changing and though they do have the ability to do chops (which on a few albums that do...while added cool This Heat style/ disjjointed type guitar)...they really don't need to because they sound great without that boring "skill" that is so played out. I don't know how many shows you have scene, but they are pure madness energy that is a combination of IGGY POP and GG ALLAN. As for Ca Caw, they have a brutal heavy sound that once again, as with KK rampage, show you don't need fucking chops. Though they are not as good as The Coughs (their previous band)...they are still quite new and can only get better. Point is...both bands know how to rock out and have young blood in them.

Ha-ha, "punker than thou" debates: now in their 35th year! Personally, I think this album rocks. Thanks for the upload.
